Andrásnap, St Andrew's day, tomorrow

Tomorrow is St Andrew's Day, a date celebrated by people called Andrew or its equivalent in countries that take account of 'name days'.

András is one such equivalent, in Hungarian, and 20 December has become occasion for an annual event in András Pető's honour in Budapest. This year the tradition has been taken up by PAK, the newly created András Pető Faculty of Semmelweis Medical University. Tomorrow this day again falls during Hungarian Science Week, run by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

This years marks the 50th anniversary of the year of Andras Peto's death. There seems no equivalent event, however, to acknowledge this in other settings where conductors are now trained and work around the world.

This year's event in Budapest is entitled 'Person-centred science in the practice of' conductive upbringing', hot topic. See this year's programme in full at:

Cultural evening, at 6.00pm
