Maria was such a colossal figure in Conductive Education in her time, in a way that is almost impossible to imagine now. She has cast such a long and contradictory shadow. It would be wonderful if one day she could attract the attention of a biographer steeped in the society and circumstances of her remarkable times.

The nature and substance of conductive pedagogy have depended very much upon the personalities and practical activities and the very real circumstances of those whose work it has been. Theory, principles etc.have played relatively minor guiding roles with practice taking the leading role. Hardly unique. András Pető seemed actively concerned to keep so much about himself secret, and there is probably much now that we shall never know. Maria, however, if not altogether open, will have left a more accessible trail. If nothing else, what a fascinating tale this would tell.

Now more than ever, Conductive Education requires critical reappraisal of its essentials. A fuller understanding of what people have done and why they did what they did could contribute a practical tool for explaining why certain things are done and said in Conductive Education. It would certainly put theory, principles etc. into much-needed perspective...
