MOVE & WALK LOSES STOCKHOLM CONTRACT

Major blow for Swedish CE service

Move and Walk has lost its contract to provide services to children in Stockholm County. This has now been awarded instead to Rehab Station Stockholm AB, a traditional habilitation company. The Stockholm contract comprises about half of Move & Walk's business.

The National Association for Disabled Children and Young People and the Green Party have protested the decision.

There will be a demonstration at County Hall on 22 October. Move & Walk has until 26 October formally to appeal the decision. Conductor Eszter Horváth Tóthné hopes that there will be legal grounds for this. Meanwhile the Council is digging its heels in.

No doubt one will hear more.

Footnote

Move & Walk was prominent in the recent EU-funded Leonardo Project that attempted a definitive statement on Conductive Education and resulted in a Glossary and a Handbook. It has hopes of expanding into Jordan.

I don't know the reasons behind the decision not to renew Move and Walk contract to provide services to children in Stockholm County. No matter the reason it is a great loss!
I know that not everybody in the conductive community approves the idea of evidence based practice. I am a supporter as many of you know. Returning from the conference in Pisa, I am even more convinced and can say it very clearly:
With no evidence that what we do works, there is no future for conductive education!!!
If we were over looked in the past because of ignorance we are over looked at present because of lack of evidence.
No financial support will be provided to services which are not evidence based. This is the case already, and will be more so in the near future.
Our exsistence is depended upon evidence.
It is a 'to be or not to be' issue!!!
